David Sjostrand, FNP
My background:
I am a Family Nurse Practitioner with a focus on mental health. My career in the medical field started as an LPN working in a behavioral, skilled nursing facility. Upon graduating with my registered nurse degree, I continued working as a charge nurse at the same facility before switching to acute care. I was a RN in an intensive care unit for four years while furthering my education and eventually graduated with my nurse practitioner in 2016. I have worked since then as a primary care provider with an emphasis on mental health. My primary focus has been behavioral health services since 2022.
What makes me different:
As a family nurse practitioner, I have a broader perspective of a patient’s health and well-being. I understand that physical and mental health can often overlap and affect each other significantly. Some mental health symptoms benefit from a physiological workup before simply treating with medications. My approach is to treat the patient provider relationship as a partnership. We will work together to form a treatment plan that fits your needs.I believe in managing patient’s psychiatric conditions in the way they are most comfortable with. Sometimes this involves pharmaceutical treatment options while other times it involves non-pharmaceutical interventions. I am also proficient in treating patients with a combination of both to ensure the best outcome. When following up with a patient I am not simply checking to see if the medication is working. I am focused on the person and supporting them wherever they are in their mental health journey.
A little about me:
I have lived in the treasure valley for the majority of my life. I currently live in Nampa with my wife, four children, and two dogs. Outside of the clinic I enjoy spending time with my family. We love outdoor activities including bike riding, camping, and water sports. I also enjoy working with my hands and am constantly doing DIY home improvement projects in my spare time.
